01 · Start with your model and a safe location

A portable generator needs its own operating plan.

What you’ll learn

Recognize the portable models in RVMP’s lineup, use a 3300i setup demonstration as a visual reference, and build a checklist from your exact owner’s manual. This is a preparation course; running a generator is not required to complete it.

Identify your model

The lineup video features the 2200i, 3300i, and 4500ies. The setup video demonstrates the 3300i only. Receptacles, controls, fuel arrangements, capacities, and ratings can differ. Use the model on the equipment label to choose the manual.

Portable generators operate outdoors.

Never run one inside a home, RV, garage, tent, or other enclosure, even with doors or windows open. Keep exhaust away from occupied areas and openings. Follow the manual’s location, ventilation, fire-clearance, and weather precautions.

Before the first start

Read the complete safety and operating sections. Inspect for damage or leaks, find the oil-check instructions, and identify the controls while the engine is stopped. For the 3300i, the manual specifies a flat, level surface and a clean, dry operating environment.

Your first task

Write down your model and serial number. Bookmark the safety, operating checklist, and maintenance sections in your manual.
