RVMP Owner Education · Lesson 02
Build your pre-start checklist
Use the same short routine to collect reliable information before attempting a start.
Check the basics in a safe condition
- Location and exhaust. The RV must be positioned so exhaust can disperse. Check for visible damage or obstruction and make sure the vehicle’s CO detectors work. A clear tailpipe alone does not establish that operation is safe; follow all exhaust precautions in your manual.
- Fuel. Confirm the selected fuel matches the available supply. Review the LP connection and valve instructions or gasoline requirements for your model. Do not loosen lines or troubleshoot around fumes.
- Oil. With the engine stopped and cool, park level and use the manual’s dipstick procedure. For the installed models covered here, the instructions call for wiping, reinserting and screwing in the dipstick, then removing it to read the level. Use the specified oil and range; do not fill above the upper mark.
- Load. Turn off the air conditioner and other large loads before starting. Follow the model’s AC breaker starting position.
- Condition. Look for damaged wiring, loose or corroded battery connections, blocked cooling openings, or evidence of a leak. Have damaged components serviced.
Oil quantities are model-specific.
Use the specifications and dipstick range in your manual. A capacity quoted for another RVMP model is not a substitute.
Record, then decide
Record anything abnormal. If the required checks pass, use the complete starting instructions from your manual. If a safety item fails, stop and request service before operating.
